IIUM started with two faculties in human sciences-Economics and Laws, subsequently this consideration was further strengthened and supported with the introduction of Faculties in sciences- hard sciences and medical sciences as well as biological sciences.
In addition to academic excellence, IIUM ensures that the students are trained to be responsible, imbued with good ethics, high moral values and professionalism, lifelong learning, managerial and entrepreneurial skills as well as leadership skills. IIUM lays great emphasis on good character as part of education process of its students, ensuring hey have good moral values. This is in line with Islamic teaching which emphasizes developing good moral character. IIUM embraces change with the arrival of digital age, which creates a borderless communication among individuals, groupsand societies, indicating that the world is getting smaller and closer day by day, by establishing faculties in information and communication technology.
IIUM integrated Islamic values and worldview into its humanities, scientific and technical curriculum, befitting its university slogan "The Garden of Knowledge and Virtue". IIUM aspires to restore the roles of Muslims in education and knowledge creation an acquisition and to contribute to the improvement of quality of life for all humankind.
